Hello all,
I picked journalism as my major because:
1. I love interacting with people/the public
2. I’m interested in the things that are happening in New York, especially around my neighborhood
3. I know that I have my freedom of speech and can bring to light things that people can’t see in general
My editor sent me a shocking email telling me about 2 bills; one of them is about Michigan wanting to register journalists, and the other about Patterson wanting to put tax on news sources to pay for journalists salary (but of course there will be strings attached).
This is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!! If both happens, this will be a discouragement for most journalists. No one will want to register, and no one will want to write. Then there are some that want the money so they will take the government’s side about more taxing so they get more income. This will take away our dignity!!! The government just wants to control everything. Don’t they control enough? Real journalists should not give in to the government and not vote for this bill to register. It’s stupid!!!!

Read these 2 articles ant tell me YOU wouldn’t feel the same way. Journalism is not going to be the same. Real journalists DON’T GIVE IN!!! Or else journalism won’t be journalism anymore. It won’t be a fun, exciting thing because you the government setting specific guidelines on what you can and cannot report and write about.
UNACCEPTABLE! Period.
