“The Crazies” is CRAZY

Hello world,

This past Friday night (3/5/10) my sister and I decided to go to watch a movie. We usually go to the movies at Sunrise Cinemas in Green Acres mall in Valley Steam, Long Island. At first my sister wanted to see Shutter Island but the times didn’t match up because we were going to be late. So we went to go see the next movie out in the theater, which is the movie The Crazies. I was excited to go see this movie because I heard it was good from my friends and coworkers. It actually looked like  an interesting horror film. Crazy noodles are usually scary noodles too.

Sunrise Cinemas was packed. The line was long to purchase tickets but we still got into the movie on time. As the movie started and the characters were turning crazy and zombie-like, I was a little confused on why they were turning crazy. There weren’t any clues at first. But then the two main characters, David Dutton, sheriff of Pierce County, and Judy Dutton, the town doctor, figure out they their  small town (Ogden Marsh) in Iowa has infected drinking water. So the town turns crazy! CRAZY! Although I think some towns in New York are already “crazy”, they are not as crazy as this town!

As the story develops, David and his police partner Russell Clank, stick together (for the most part) to protect Judy (who is pregnant) and Becca Darling, who works for Judy at her doctor’s office. When the U.S. government finally gets involve, they bring in the army and guys in bright green and yellow suits with air masks and put the whole town in containment. They go through the whole place and check for certain symptoms of the virus and then whoever has the virus is taken away from their families and put into a special place. A “special” place. I don’t know if they were going to kill them but a crazy person got to them anyway.

Later on, Dutton finally discovers that a plane crashed in the town’s water and it was a substance that infected drinking water and in turn infected the people and made them turn crazy. The experiment was supposed to see if the substance can be used for exterminating a whole town. But it crashed and the government tried to cover it up. (I never understood why the government didn’t tell the town people, but I guess they changed the location for the experiment at the last moment!) In the end, the government put in a big “atomic” bomb on the town to get rid of the disease.

Becca dies near the end.

Russel (David’s partner) finds out he is infected and at the end help’s David and his wife escape through the border by distracting the whole bomb squad. He pretended to reach for a gun and they shot him.

For the most part, I thought no one was going to survive in the end. But someone had to. And I’m thinking there might be a second movie because in the end they show another time about to be attacked by the substance. If a sequel came out I might go to see it because I saw the first one. But then again I’m going to know what the main plot is about. Or maybe not.

Overall the Crazies is a crazy movie!
